Chisinau asks Moscow for details about the companies involved in the resumption of gas in the Transnistrian region

The government has not received any information regarding new gas supply solutions for the Transnistrian region, according to government spokesman Daniel Vodă. This statement follows reports in the Russian media that supplies could begin in February through the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline. Additionally, the authorities in Chisinau have formally requested the Russian Embassy to identify the companies involved in the potential resumption of natural gas supplies to the region. However, no response has been received so far.

“Once the answers are received, we will verify the entities involved according to the legislation of the Republic of Moldova and international law,” emphasized Vodă.

Also, the authorities in Chisinau assert that there is a simple and immediate solution for resuming gas supplies: “Gazprom should deliver natural gas to Moldovagaz, as per the contract,” Daniel Vodă said. He claimed that Russia and Gazprom are creating artificial problems that block existing solutions. “Russia, through Gazprom, is fabricating issues that do not exist. Meanwhile, people in the region are without heat, and the disconnections continue.”

Daniel Vodă reiterated that the humanitarian crisis in the Transnistrian region is being artificially sustained by Russia to destabilize the Republic of Moldova. “The humanitarian crisis in Transnistrian region is being deliberately created and maintained by Russia to provoke an internal conflict in the Republic of Moldova,” he added.

Regarding information published by "Kommersant" about the possibility of delivering gas to the Transnistrian region via the "Turkish Stream" pipeline by the Cypriot company Ozbor Enterprises, Vodă stated that the Russian Federation is flooding the information space with speculation. “The Russian Federation and its regime in Tiraspol are disseminating all kinds of information and scenarios regarding intermediaries, without actually delivering gas or making reservations on existing pipelines.”

We remind you that yesterday, the Ministry of Energy in Chisinau announced that Gazprom did not make any capacity reservations for the transport of natural gas through the Trans-Balkan gas pipeline to the Transnistrian region for February, as of Monday, January 20. Tenders for monthly reservations occur every third Monday of the month, and subsequently, volumes can be reserved daily; however, this option is more expensive.

We remind that Gazprom halted natural gas supplies to the Transnistrian region starting January 1. This decision caused massive disconnections of gas, hot water, and thermal energy in most localities, including in the Security Zone, and resulted in widespread electricity disconnections.

After several weeks of rejecting Chisinau's proposals for help and assistance, the alleged administration in Tiraspol has taken a step back, declaring that it is now ready to purchase natural gas through the Moldovagaz company. The so-called Transnistrian leader, Vadim Krasnoselski, admitted that this is the only reliable solution to provide homes and social infrastructure with light, heat, and gas.
