Prime Minister Dorin Recean, at Davos: "Disinformation is a global challenge. It knows no borders"

The risks of foreign interference in the electoral process and the experience of the Republic of Moldova in organizing the election, as well as the actions by which the Russian Federation tried to disrupt the democratic processes in our country, were the topics addressed by Prime Minister Dorin Recean at the panel dedicated to the elections, held within the Davos Economic Forum.

According to a statement from the Executive, in his intervention, the Prime Minister emphasized that, during the electoral period, propaganda and disinformation experienced a significant intensification, and fake narratives were widely disseminated to compromise the election. Also, the Prime Minister pointed t that the Republic of Moldova was the target of an unprecedented fraud – the 2024 elections were marked by electoral corruption and vote buying by criminal groups.

"We have witnessed actions and disinformation campaigns aimed at dividing society, influencing public opinion and undermining trust in state institutions. With the technology now available, the problem for governments is the overwhelming amount of fake information. The most important thing is to continue investing in education and in the development of critical thinking, so that people are less manipulated. Disinformation has no borders and remains a global challenge, which requires collective solutions," said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

Another panel discussion, involving Prime Minister Dorin Recean, focused on the sustainable management of water resources in the context of climate change. The Prime Minister also participated in roundtables and discussions on boosting the transition to green energy, encouraging investments in renewable energy and building resilient economies to maintain peace.

The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova includes the Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, Dumitru Alaiba, and the Head of the Investment Agency, Natalia Bejan. This year, the main topic of the meeting is "Cooperation for the Smart Era".
