Expert: The crisis on the left bank of the Nistru – Russia’s strategy to influence the parliamentary elections

The energy crisis in the Republic of Moldova is part of the Russian Federation’s plan and also targets the political, social, economic and informational fields. WatchDog expert Rodica Pîrgari said in the “ÎN CONTEXT” program that, in the event of the resumption of gas supplies to the Transnistrian region, Moscow’s manipulations will continue to influence the parliamentary elections in the fall.

“A foreign state is trying, through its own political agenda, to influence what is happening in the Republic of Moldova, and this would suggest that national security is not exactly in the best condition. We remind that this crisis is only part of the main goal of the Russian Federation, which is to influence the future parliamentary elections. We see that action is being taken in the political, socio-economic and even informational fields. This will continue for a long time.”

The expert emphasizes that Russia will continue to use information manipulation to control pro-European tendencies in the Transnistrian region.

"Even if gas deliveries are resumed, this plan will be carried out until the elections: price increases, inflation, information exploitation of this issue will be used to achieve its goals... Russia did this not only to influence the elections, but also to punish Transnistrians for their vote in the referendum. We saw a vote of over 38% for European accession, which of course did not please Russia. An attempt was made to punish those in the Transnistrian region. As a result, what we see today is their attempt to pretend to be a savior, an attempt is being made to gain the loyalty of people there," says Rodica Pîrgari.

We remind you that Gazprom stopped natural gas deliveries to the Transnistrian region starting January 1. The decision generated massive disconnections from gas, hot water and thermal energy in most localities, including in the Security Zone, and widespread disconnections of electricity. After several weeks of categorically rejecting Chisinau's proposals for help and assistance, the so-called administration in Tiraspol took a step back and declared that it was ready to purchase natural gas through the Moldovagaz company. The so-called Transnistrian leader, Vadim Krasnoselski, admitted that it was the only reliable solution to provide people's homes and social infrastructure with light, heat and gas.
