Tensions rise in Transnistria amid gas supply blockade claims
Several residents of the Transnistrian region are protesting near crossing points to the right bank of the Dniester River, including the exit from Bender toward Chișinău, as well as in Rîbnița and Dubăsari.
The protesters accuse the authorities in Chișinău of hindering the delivery of natural gas to the region, allegedly causing an energy and social blockade. Chișinău denies these accusations, asserting that the demonstrations “are part of the well-known agenda to stir tensions and escalate the security situation.” Meanwhile, Moldovan officials reject the allegations of a blockade, describing Tiraspol's rhetoric as “false narratives.” According to Krasnoselski, the region’s gas reserves will last only a few more days, while the coal stocks at the Cuciurgan Power Plant are expected to run out by February 16–17.
