Maia Sandu’s visit to Kyiv: Strengthening Moldova-Ukraine ties
President Maia Sandu is set to visit Kyiv on Saturday, January 25. During her visit, she will meet with Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal, and Speaker of Parliament Ruslan Stefanchuk.
"Today, I am traveling to Kyiv to convey the message that Moldova remains steadfast in its support for Ukraine. For nearly three years, the Ukrainian people have been defending their homeland, their families, and the future of their children. The bravery of the Ukrainian people also safeguards peace in the Republic of Moldova, and for this, we are profoundly grateful. Moldova will continue to be a good neighbor and friend to Ukraine," stated Maia Sandu.
Key topics of discussion include strengthening bilateral cooperation, the continued interconnection of the two countries' infrastructure, trade, collaboration in the European Union accession process, regional security, and solidarity in addressing shared challenges.
According to the Presidency, a significant item on the agenda will be the energy crisis instigated by Russia, which has raised energy prices on the right bank of the Dniester, left residents on the left bank without heating and electricity, and could have implications for regional security.
Additionally, the president will join a discussion at Kyiv’s "New Europe Centre," a research institution specializing in foreign policy and security issues.
