Madison Keys triumphs over world no. 1 Sabalenka in Grand Slam final

Madison Keys secured the trophy with a victory in the final against world number one, Aryna Sabalenka.

Keys won in three sets, scoring 6-3, 2-6, 7-5, in a match that lasted 2 hours and 5 minutes. At the end, both players were overcome with emotion and could not hold back their tears.

"I’m definitely going to cry—please bear with me! Aryna, you played incredibly well. Congratulations to you and your team. I am deeply grateful to everyone and will treasure every moment here. Thank you to my team. I’ve wanted this trophy so much and often wondered if I’d ever be able to win it," said Keys.

This victory marks Madison Keys’ first Grand Slam title. In 2017, she reached the US Open final but lost to her compatriot, Sloane Stephens. The American athlete has now claimed her tenth career title and will rise to 7th in the world rankings on Monday.

Meanwhile, Aryna Sabalenka retains her two Grand Slam titles, both earned at the Australian Open in 2023 and 2024.

The winner of this year’s final earned 3.5 million Australian dollars, while the runner-up received 1.9 million.
