They signed a joint declaration outlining the main aspects of cooperation between the two countries.

"Today, in Kiev, together with President Volodymyr Zelensky, I reaffirmed Moldova's strong support for Ukraine. The courage of the Ukrainian people defends not only their freedom but also our own peace. We discussed the common challenges we face and how Russia is attempting to use energy as a means of blackmail. Together with Ukraine, we are stronger and prepared with solutions to protect our citizens, including those in the Transnistrian region, and to ensure that every home has light and warmth," said Maia Sandu.

For his part, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stated that "the situation in Moldova is unstable," referring to the energy crisis.

"I am pleased to welcome Maia Sandu to Kiev today – a true friend of Ukraine. We had a detailed discussion about the situation in our region. The serious situation of our neighbors is unstable, and only together can we rectify this. Particularly in the energy sector and the many social issues used by our common enemy against the interests not only of Moldova but of our entire region. The absence of crises in Moldova is also integral to our security. We must work together, support one another, and find common solutions to help our people," emphasized Zelensky.

According to the declaration signed today, the two leaders emphasized the importance of the relationship between Ukraine and Moldova and agreed to intensify efforts to strengthen their ties. They also acknowledged the progress made by both Ukraine and Moldova toward their strategic goal of full EU membership and committed to strengthening cooperation to counter hybrid threats and disinformation.

Additionally, they expressed a strong commitment to taking joint steps to strengthen energy security and diversify energy sources to ensure the stability of energy supply and maintain independence from external influences.

It is worth noting that President Maia Sandu is visiting Ukraine's capital on Saturday, January 25, where she has several meetings scheduled with Ukrainian leadership.
