Transnistrian energy crisis: Urgent solution needed for gas shortage

The Transnistrian region has only a few days’ worth of gas remaining, and the coal available for electricity production will last no more than two weeks.

As a result, a solution to the energy crisis must be found urgently. This statement was made by Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian on the "Scaner" program on Moldova 1. According to him, a decision must be made, irrespective of whether Russia resumes gas deliveries to the region.

"We have one week, and during this week, we, together with Tiraspol, must find a solution. They must accept a solution where the Russian element is entirely absent," said Oleg Serebrian.

It is important to note that Gazprom halted natural gas deliveries to the Transnistrian region as of January 1. This decision has resulted in widespread disconnections of gas, hot water, and heating in most localities, including in the Security Zone, as well as intermittent power outages.

After several weeks of firmly rejecting Chișinău's offers of help and assistance, the self-proclaimed administration in Tiraspol has reconsidered and declared its willingness to purchase natural gas through Moldovagaz. The self-proclaimed Transnistrian leader, Vadim Krasnoselski, acknowledged that this is the only reliable solution to provide light, heat, and gas to people's homes and social infrastructure.
