Nine people died in fires since the start of 2025. IGSU Recommendations

Since the start of 2025, more than 150 fires have been recorded in the Republic of Moldova, resulting in the deaths of nine people, according to the General Inspectorate for Emergencies (IGSU). In light of this situation, rescuers remind citizens about the importance of following fire prevention rules, particularly when using heating sources.

Specialists warn that improper use of stoves, electric heaters, and natural gas installations can lead to serious accidents. Citizens are encouraged to use stoves cautiously, avoiding ignition with flammable substances such as gasoline or oil, and to prevent them from overheating.

Carbon monoxide poisoning is another significant danger during the cold season. To prevent such incidents, it is recommended that people periodically check the functionality of ventilation ducts and ensure adequate, systematic ventilation of rooms. Additionally, to avoid the emission of dangerous gases, fires in stoves should be extinguished at night.

Regarding electric heating appliances, the IGSU advises using equipment purchased from authorized stores that have all the necessary certifications. Firefighters warn that overloading electrical networks or using multiple devices simultaneously may cause a short circuit. People are urged not to cover electric heating sources, and these should be disconnected from the socket at night.

Furthermore, specialists recommend that natural gas installations be checked periodically and used properly. Gas cylinders must be stored outside, in a metal box, and away from indoor areas. It is also prohibited to use defective cylinders or hoses.
