Bribe of 200,000 euros: two officials from the Bălți City Hall detained by the CNA
A deputy mayor and a deputy head of the Department of Education, Youth and Sports of the Bălți Municipality have been detained by the National Anti-Corruption Center (CNA), being suspected of involvement in several episodes of influence peddling, passive and active bribery.
According to the CNA, the two officials allegedly received systematic payments from illegal activities from leaders and employees of various subdivisions of the Bălți Municipality, as well as from directors of institutions subordinate to the municipality, in exchange for granting favours contrary to the law. Additionally, one of the suspects is said to have accepted a bribe of 200,000 euros to favour an economic agent.
CNA officers conducted searches in the officials' offices, at their homes, and at the residences of some school directors. As a result, documents and items relevant to the investigation were seized, as well as cash amounts in various currencies, totalling approximately 400,000 lei.
The two suspects are to be placed in the CNA's Criminal Investigation Isolation Facility.
