Ambassador Lilian Darii summoned by Russia: protest following political statements
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation summoned the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Moscow, Lilian Darii, today, January 27, to convey an official protest regarding recent statements made by a political party in Chișinău. According to the statement issued by the Russian diplomacy, the declarations contained "unfounded accusations" against the Russian ambassador to Chișinău and "calls for his expulsion and the restriction of the activities of the Russian embassy."
The protest would target the recent statements of the Moldovan National Party (PNM), which called for the "immediate expulsion" of the Russian ambassador to Chișinău, Oleg Ozerov, and the restriction of the activities of the Russian Embassy.
Representatives of the Russian Foreign Ministry demanded that these statements be publicly denied by Moldovan officials and referred to the necessity of respecting the obligations set forth by the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations, particularly those related to the protection of individuals accredited as diplomats.
Moscow also expressed dissatisfaction with the Moldovan side's publication of a confidential diplomatic note from the Russian Embassy in Chișinău, sent in the context of discussions regarding gas supplies. Russian authorities characterized this action as "a hostile gesture" that undermines trust and calls into question the reliability of diplomatic cooperation between the two countries.
So far, the authorities in Chișinău have not provided an official response.
