Chisinau requests clear information from Tiraspol regarding electricity and gas needs

Chisinau insists that Tiraspol urgently submit the necessary data on electricity and natural gas consumption in critical infrastructure on the left bank of the Nistru, to allow procurement at competitive prices from funds provided by the European Union.

During a new working session held in Chisinau, specialists in the field of electricity from both banks of the Nistru continued discussions on legal solutions for supplying the Transnistrian region. The constitutional authorities emphasize that it is essential to depoliticize this issue and collaborate transparently for the efficient implementation of the grant program offered by the EU.

In this regard, Tiraspol must quickly present disaggregated data on household consumers and essential institutions – hospitals, schools, social centers – as well as on the volumes of resources used in different periods.

“Based on the figures obtained, the constitutional authorities will establish the necessary volumes of gas and electricity to be contracted on the free market, and the delivery mechanism will be ensured by Energocom. Energocom has been designated responsible for all purchases from this grant,” reads the press release issued by the Bureau.

The authorities in Chisinau emphasized that they want to implement the grant program operatively, transparently, responsibly, with the provision of accurate and correct data requested regarding consumers in the critical infrastructure of the Transnistrian region to fully benefit from the humanitarian aid offered by the European Union.

Also, the need for responsible use of energy resources and constructive cooperation to overcome the crisis generated by the cessation of gas supplies from the Russian Federation and Gazprom was emphasized.

We remind you that the energy crisis in the Transnistrian region began after, on January 1, Gazprom completely stopped natural gas supplies to the Republic of Moldova, affecting in particular the left bank of the Nistru, where the separatist authorities previously received free gas from Russia. On January 27, Prime Minister Dorin Recean announced that the European Union is offering our country an emergency grant of 30 million euros for the purchase of natural gas, and the Government approved the loan of 3 million cubic meters of gas to the Transnistrian region, to maintain the necessary pressure in the pipelines until January 31.
