SCJ: Judge Iurie Obadă was dismissed legally
The dismissal of Judge Iurie Obadă, who in 2017 ordered the arrest of Andrei Brăguța, a young man with mental disorders, is legal. This is the final conclusion of the Supreme Court of Justice, which emphasized that serious mistakes by a magistrate can be punished disciplinary, even if his decisions were not quashed.

After the tragic death of Andrei Brăguţa in August 2017, the case generated public reactions and investigations into the way he was detained and treated. In 2018, the Supreme Court of Justice (SCJ) decided to dismiss the judge who ordered his pre-trial detention. The magistrate contested the sanction, but the courts rejected his request.
Andrei Brăguţa was detained in 2017 and died after 10 days of suffering, following beatings inflicted by his cellmates, while police officers looked on indifferently. Several people were convicted in this case, including law enforcement officers.
