Dorin Recean: Cuciurgan power plant will provide energy for the left bank
A part of the natural gas procured with European aid will be supplied to the Cuciurgan Power Plant to produce electricity for priority consumption needs on the left bank of the Nistru. Also, the right bank will be provided with electricity from purchases in Romania, as it is more cost-effective. The statements were made by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, at a press conference organized in Balti, where he participated in the Local Autonomy Day. There is a technical constraint, namely, the need to keep the Cuciurgan Power Plant in operation, the Prime Minister said.

"For those who do not necessarily agree that we must help our fellow citizens and relatives, I want to give them the practical reason: if we look at the map, we see that the Isaccea-Vulcănești-Chișinău line passes through Cuciurgan and we must act wisely so that Russia does not drive these people to despair and, out of this despair, cut off the power to the right bank, and then we will have problems with electricity supply," said Dorin Recean.
Today, the Government signed an agreement on non-reimbursable financial assistance from the European Union, worth 64 million euros, the Prime Minister announced. Under this package, the first instalment will be 30 million euros, of which 10 million will be allocated to the purchase of electricity for the right bank, and 20 million for the purchase of gas for humanitarian aid to the left bank. In addition, an additional package of 34 million euros will be assistance for the budget of the Republic of Moldova.
"This support of 34 million means that the EU is offering us free aid so that we can cope with the budget expenses of the Republic of Moldova. These expenses refer to schools, kindergartens, financing the public sector, it is financial support that goes to the state treasury," explained Recean.
The prime minister also noted that this EU support is a first action that could create premises for tariffs to be reduced in the future.
"Together with the Government and our friends from the European Union, to bring more financial resources to make this objective possible," said the prime minister.
The official informed that natural gas will be delivered to the Transnistrian region after Tiraspol presents accurate and complete data on the beneficiaries. Chisinau has the necessary tools to monitor whether there is energy consumption for large industrial companies and, from the moment those on the left bank of the Nistru provide energy for these enterprises, the quantities of natural gas delivered will be reduced.
