Moldova deaths linked to rare pregnancy complication and illegal salon practices
The cause of death for both the baby and the mother at Edineț District Hospital is believed to be amniotic fluid embolism, a rare and severe pregnancy complication with the potential to be fatal for the mother, the fetus, or both, wrote the Minister of Health, Ala Nemerenco, on social media.

According to her, such cases occur in about one in every 20,000 births, with a survival rate of only a few percent.
"We will only have the final result after the histological analyses and the completion of the investigation, which will follow the entire course of the pregnancy and the medical aspects. Other nuances may emerge. Therefore, I have no right to defend or judge anyone. We will refrain from commenting until both the investigation and the forensic expertise are completed," wrote the Minister of Health.
Regarding the case of the woman who died at a beauty salon in the capital, Ala Nemerenco wrote that the anesthesiologist is the same person who previously worked at a public hospital, where, following an investigation ordered by me, a number of illegal activities were uncovered, including a clandestine cosmetic surgery department.
"The Ministry of Health has set up a commission to investigate the center's operations, as well as the National Agency for Public Health (ANSP)."
