ECHR Report: In 2024, 363 applications were registered against the Republic of Moldova

Moldovans seek justice at the European Court of Human Rights three times more often than the European average, shows the latest ECHR report. Thus, last year, 363 applications were registered against the Republic of Moldova. However, the number is almost 40 percent lower than in 2023.

The document shows that last year, the ECHR registered 363 applications against the Republic of Moldova. Currently, almost 1,150 cases are pending.

Last year, the Strasbourg Court issued 17 judgments, and in 15 cases, the court found at least one violation of the provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights and the Additional Protocols.

In all, starting with 1997, the European Court of Human Rights has registered 17,700 applications from Moldovan citizens, with judgments issued in 616 cases.

Last year, the most sentences were pronounced for torture - seven cases; the right to a fair trial - six cases, and four sentences - for discrimination.

Last year, a total of almost 29 thousand applications were filed with the European Court of Human Rights, most of which were from Turkey, Ukraine, Romania, Poland and Russia.
