The city of Erzin in Turkey's Hatay province, worst hit by the earthquakes a week ago, is still standing. People say they escaped, thanks to the exigency and responsibility shown by the local authorities.

In the city of Erzin, there are no victims, no collapsed buildings, and life continues at its usual pace. Only a few houses and minarets were slightly damaged. The city's mayor says it's all because he didn't make any compromises in construction, just like his predecessors. The inhabitants of this city are of the same opinion.

“We can thank our engineers and builders for that. They did a great job. That was our luck.”;

“The builders didn't just put three pieces of iron in the ground and pour concrete over them. That is why the constructions are so stable.";

"After everything that's happened, I'm almost embarrassed that we're okay." The city of Erzin has approximately 42 thousand inhabitants, and the number of population has not undergone any change after the earthquake. At least 6,000 buildings collapsed in the ten provinces affected by the earthquakes. Authorities have arrested more than 130 people, mostly property developers, on charges of "negligence".
