The grant agreement was signed today by Prime Minister Dorin Recean, Catarina Bjorlin Hansen, head of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) office in Moldova, and Sergiu Aparatu, interim CEO of Moldelectrica.

The financial support from the EBRD covers 20% of the costs for the 400 kV Bălți-Suceava power line project. The funds will also be used to rehabilitate the national electricity transmission network, replacing outdated equipment, according to a statement from the Ministry of Energy.

The total value of the electricity grid interconnection project between Moldova and Romania, now in its second phase, is 77 million euros. The EBRD and the European Investment Bank (EIB) had previously contributed 30.8 million euros each toward its completion by December 2027. Thus, the financial support will strengthen energy ties between the two countries and contribute to the development of Moldova’s energy infrastructure.
