Trump claims he spoke with Putin about ending Ukraine war
U.S. President Donald Trump said on he spoke on the phone with Russian President Vladimir Putin about ending the war in Ukraine, The New York Post reported, citing Reuters.

In an interview aboard Air Force One on last Friday, Trump said, “I’d rather not say” when asked how many times he had spoken with Putin.
“Putin doesn’t want to see people dying anymore,” Trump told The New York Post.
Neither the Kremlin nor the White House responded immediately to Reuters’ request for comment.
At the end of January, Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov said Putin was ready to have a phone conversation with Trump and that Moscow was waiting for a response from Washington.
In the same interview, Trump said he would likely meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky next week to discuss ending the war.
Trump told The New York Post that he has “always had a good relationship with Putin” and that he has a concrete plan to end the war. However, he did not provide further details.
“I hope it ends soon. People are dying every day. This war is terrible for Ukraine. I just want to end this disaster,” Trump added.
The war, which started with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, will reach its third anniversary on February 24. Thousands of people, mostly Ukrainian civilians, have been killed in the conflict.
