Over 705 thousand households will receive higher compensation for energy payments for January

Over 705,000 households registered on the compensatii.gov.md platform will receive financial support for their energy costs for January. The total budget allocated for this support is approximately 706 million lei. According to the Minister of Labor and Social Protection, Alexei Buzu, the amount provided this month is higher because it includes a one-time payment for both heating and electricity compensation.

Starting January 10, beneficiaries who selected payment via bank card have already received their notifications regarding the compensations. Those who chose other payment methods can visit post offices to collect their payments for January, as said by the minister.

Additionally, the minister announced that starting in February, the Government, with the EU support, will cover the increase in electricity tariffs for the first 110 kW consumed. This measure will apply to all families in the Republic of Moldova, regardless of whether they are enrolled in the compensation system or not. The support will be directly reflected in their electricity bills.

“For beneficiaries receiving compensation in the system, both in February and March, heating compensations will be provided, as well as electricity compensation that will be included directly in the bill. We want to ensure that these resources are accessible to families soon. To avoid a fragmented system where some families receive compensation in cash and others on their bills, we have decided to provide support through the bills. This is the most efficient way to deliver assistance via energy suppliers,” explained Alexei Buzu.

Also, the authorities are developing a mechanism that would enable households that do not wish to receive this electricity support to give up compensation.

“We are in active discussions with suppliers to establish this option. We will provide a simple method for families who do not wish to receive this support to inform their supplier,” added the minister.

According to data provided by the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the total budget for energy payment support from November 2024 to January 2025 is 1 billion 534 million lei.

We would like to inform you that this year, for the first time, energy compensation will be provided in monetary form. This compensation will be directly offered to each eligible household, either through the applicant's bank card or at the post office. Households can apply for compensation for the cold period of the year, which covers the months from November to March.

The compensation amount is calculated individually for each household and varies based on several factors, including income, the number of residents, their status (such as severely disabled persons, children, pensioners, full-time students, or unemployed individuals), and the primary source of heating used in the home.

Eligible households can receive compensation if they heat their homes using natural gas, thermal energy, electricity, or solid fuels (such as wood, coal, pellets, or briquettes).
