Veronica Mihailov-Moraru: The Prosecutors' Evaluation Commission will resume its activity in a few weeks

The prosecutors' evaluation commission will restart its activities in a few weeks, as announced by Justice Minister Veronica Mihailov-Moraru. She mentioned that there is currently a technical pause in the vetting process. The funding previously provided by the United States will be replaced with European funds, a topic that has already been discussed with representatives of the European Commission.

"We have engaged in active discussions with the European Commission, which has confirmed its decision to take over the financing of Commission No. 3, which is responsible for evaluating prosecutors. Currently, we are finalizing the formalities regarding this transfer to the implementer, who is also in charge of the Judges Evaluation Commission. As a result, the vetting process for prosecutors will continue and is expected to commence in a few weeks," stated the Minister of Justice.

Last week, President Maia Sandu noted that the suspension of external funding by the US administration has impacted the vetting process for judges and prosecutors. The evaluation commissions comprise three Moldovan experts and three international experts. The national members of the commissions receive a salary equivalent to double that of a Supreme Court judge, amounting to over 55,000 lei. However, the salaries of the international members and the secretariat staff are not specified in the law.
