MET Gas to supply Transnistria amid payment uncertainty
Hungarian company MET Gas and Energy Marketing has announced that it will begin delivering natural gas to the Transnistrian region on Friday, February 14.

The company stated on its website that it had reached an agreement with Ukraine’s gas transmission system operator.
No further details about the gas delivery have been disclosed, but earlier reports suggested that the gas would reach Moldova’s border, where it would be taken over by Moldovagaz and subsequently supplied to Tiraspoltransgaz.
Moldovan Prime Minister Dorin Recean addressed the situation on Thursday evening in an interview with Jurnal TV.
"The government does not broker transactions, does not certify companies, and ensures that natural gas deliveries to the left bank of the Dniester comply with Moldovan and international law. At this stage, we understand that gas deliveries will take place tomorrow, but similar reports have surfaced before. Therefore, since we neither control nor are required to control these processes, we simply acknowledge and monitor them," Recean stated. He added, "We must first see it happen before confirming whether or not it will occur."
Previously, Chișinău was informed that a company from Dubai would handle the gas payments, whereas Transnistria’s self-proclaimed administration claims the funds originate from a Russian loan. Since early February, the Transnistrian region has consumed 26.5 million cubic meters of gas, purchased using a €20 million grant from the European Union. The acquisition price was nearly €600 per thousand cubic meters of gas. These transactions were carried out on energy exchanges in Romania and Bulgaria.
