Nicu Popescu, about Moscow's plan to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova: "We are alert, there is no reason to panic, but the situation is complicated"
The Republic of Moldova is alert to the risks in the region and is prepared for the entire spectrum of scenarios, declares the head of Moldovan diplomacy, Nicu Popescu, with reference to the officially confirmed information regarding the preparation by Moscow of some scenarios to destabilize the political situation in the Republic of Moldova. Popescu emphasized that the situation is complicated, but there are no reasons for panic.
"The Republic of Moldova has prepared for the entire spectrum of scenarios. Unfortunately, we must note that the Republic of Moldova is in a dangerous geographical area, it has gone through many difficult moments. The risks denounced by the president, attempts to destabilize, to provoke violence, including those coordinated from outside, is a type of risk that we were aware of. We are prepared for a certain spectrum of scenarios. The situation is calm. The authorities, the institutions are doing their job well. They have faced the risks in the last year. We are alert, there is no reason to panic, but the situation is complicated", said Nicu Popescu in the joint conference held with the acting president of the OSCE Bujar Osmani. The foreign minister of North Macedonia, who is the acting president of the OSCE, promised to support the Republic of Moldova and appealed to the member states of the organization to strengthen the principles of the OSCE. "We call on all participating countries to strengthen the principles of the OSCE, we will support the Republic of Moldova within the limits of our mandate", declared Osmani. The OSCE official mentioned that he will discuss this topic with President Maia Sandu, reiterating the OSCE's support for the Republic of Moldova in overcoming the challenges arising from the war started by Russia in Ukraine and in resolving the Transnistrian conflict. Russia's plan for the next period is actions with the involvement of diversionists, who will undertake attacks on state buildings and hostage taking, the ultimate goal of these actions being the removal of the current pro-European power from Chisinau, President Maia Sandu said on Monday during a briefing. Maia Sandu asked the state institutions to show vigilance, and the Parliament - to adopt the laws that will give the SIS and the Prosecutor's Office the necessary tools to combat threats to the country's security. Russia rejects President Maia Sandu's statements about a possible Kremlin plan to destabilize the situation in Chisinau. "Such claims are unfounded and built in the spirit of classic techniques that are often used by the United States, other Western countries and Ukraine," the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
