“Chirița” on European Tour: The show staged by the “Eugene Ionesco” Theatre will be performed in Paris, Brussels, Frankfurt and Milan

The famous Chirița from Bârzoieni will finally arrive in Paris, but also in Brussels, Frankfurt, and Milan. At the beginning of March, the longest-running and most colourful and humorous show of the Eugene Ionesco National Theatre, “Chirița in the Province,” after Vasile Alecsandri, will be performed in these four European cities. The European tour will take place within the framework of the “Cultural Diplomacy” project, supported by the Ministry of Culture.

At the show's premiere in 1993, the role of Chirița was performed by Igor Chistol. Slava Sambriș followed in 2007, and from 2013 to the present, the role of the Chirița has been played by Valeriu Pahomi.

“A role in which I started to feel good not from the first day, because it is something more special. It's a travesty, and it involves a different style of acting, it's very demanding. Yes! It is! Chirița, it seems, will end up in Paris as Alecsandri wrote many years ago: in Paris, in Paris, in Paris, where beautiful things happen in her mind”, says actor Valeriu Pahomi.

“At least the younger generation hasn't performed this show outside the country. Before Paris, Chirița will be performed in Brussels, Frankfurt, Milan, then we come home, Chirița takes a breath and leaves for Paris”, says actress Dorina-Beatrice Timciuc. Years ago, the show was a great success in several cities in Romania, says Andrei Sochircă, the show's veteran actor.

“I've been acting for more than 30 years. This is the 31st year. I'm the only actor who has played Șarl since the premiere until now. I am sure that in these three hours our audience will forget about all the problems in the world, they will teleport to another world, the world of Chirița, which is endless”, says the people's artist Andrei Sochircă.

In the hope that numerous fellow citizens, but also natives of the four European countries, will come, the performances were subtitled in English and French.

“With the support of the Ministry of Culture, we have the opportunity to reach our dear spectators in the diaspora. A rather stressful tour because it involves expenses. We will give up the hotel in some places, we will play in the evening, we will get on the train or bus”, says the director of the “Eugene Ionesco” National Theater, Petru Vutcărău, who is also the director of the performance.

The show “Chirița in the Province” will be performed in Chișinău on March 1, followed by the European tour.
