Nine outbreaks of African swine fever, confirmed in the Republic of Moldova

Nine new outbreaks of African swine fever (ASF) were confirmed between February 10 and 19, 2025, in the Republic of Moldova. According to the National Food Safety Agency, during the same period, an outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza (H5N1) was also reported in wildlife in the village of Pîrîta, Dubăsari district.

Cases of the swine fever in domestic pigs were recorded in the localities of Șuri and Drochia in Drochia district, in the village of Răzeni in Ialoveni district, in the locality of Mereșeuca in Ocnița district, in Moșana in Dondușeni district, in Cimișeni in Criuleni district and in the locality of Rotunda in Edineț district. Also, ASF was confirmed in wild boars, in the rural area of ​​Briceni in Dondușeni district and in the village of Geamăna in Anenii Noi district.

The authorities have established quarantine measures, delimited protection and surveillance areas and continue monitoring wild and domestic animals to limit the spread of the virus. ANSA announces that five outbreaks of ASF in domestic pigs have been eradicated.

Since the beginning of 2025, 26 outbreaks of swine fever in domestic pigs and two in wild boar have been reported in the Republic of Moldova, with 23 outbreaks currently active. So far, 144 pigs have been slaughtered to prevent the spread of the disease.

The National Food Safety Agency urges farmers and the population to strictly comply with biosecurity measures to limit the spread of the virus.
