In Tokyo, Maia Sandu talked with members of the Japanese Legislature. The President spoke to them about the Republic of Moldova, the reforms carried out within the European integration process and our country's cooperation with Japan.

"I told them about our fight for democracy and the road to the European Union, about the efforts to reform key sectors and build a state where every citizen enjoys respect. I mentioned the excellent relationship we have with Japan, which is the third most important development partner of Moldova, with generous contributions in agriculture and the health system, in the local infrastructure", emphasised the head of state, quoted by the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova.

In the context, Maia Sandu mentioned the 2KR project, worth 26.54 million USD, through which Moldovan farmers were able to increase their agricultural production, as well as the grant agreement worth more than seven million euros for the procurement of high-performance equipment for five public medical institutions in the country, recently signed by the Chisinau Government.

The President of the Republic of Moldova spoke in Tokyo about the repercussions of the war in Ukraine, underlining the major problems for the Republic of Moldova. "Diversification and energy efficiency projects will bring tangible results over time, but Moldova needs support now, to stop depending on suppliers who use energy resources as a weapon," said Maia Sandu.

On the first day of her visit to Tokyo, Maia Sandu had a meeting with the President of the House of Representatives in the Parliament, Hiroyuki Hosoda.

"The discussion focused on regional security and bilateral cooperation. The head of state expressed her conviction that, despite all the crises, Moldova will succeed in carrying out reforms, improve the business environment and become an attractive destination for investments", the press release of the Presidency states.

Between December 1-3, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, is visiting Japan. In Tokyo, Maia Sandu will participate in the conference of the International Assembly of Women (WAW).
