Tragedy strikes in Peru: Roof collapse kills 3, injures 74

At least three people have died, and 74 others have been injured after the roof of a shopping center in Peru collapsed. Among the victims are children. The search efforts are ongoing.

Dozens of families were inside the building when the roof suddenly collapsed in the restaurant section. The tragedy occurred in Trujillo, Peru’s third-largest city by population, as reported by Reuters.

Witnesses are horrified by the events: "The roof is on the ground, everything is rubble. There were many children near the inflatable toys. The entire roof is literally on the ground, just debris. Aluminum panels fell on them. There are people and children inside who are unconscious."

Search efforts are ongoing. More than 200 rescuers and police officers have been deployed.

The cause of the incident remains unclear. Authorities report that they were notified of the tragedy with a delay of at least half an hour. An investigation has been initiated.
