The amount of loans granted in January decreased by almost 30 percent compared to December
The number of new loans granted in January decreased by almost 30 percent compared to December, amounting to over 5.7 billion lei, according to data from the National Bank of Moldova.

The largest part, or about 80 per cent, of the loans are in lei. Individuals contracted loans in a volume of over 2 billion lei, down 11 percent. Most, or approximately 55 percent, were granted for consumption, in national currency, for a term of 2 to 5 years. Also, banks offered a volume of real estate loans in January that was almost 15 percent lower than in December, amounting to approximately 900 million lei.
The average rate on consumer loans granted in the national currency decreased by 0.04 percentage points and amounted to 10.5 percent, and in the case of real estate loans granted, it increased by 0.05 percentage points, being over 7 percent.
Legal entities requested fewer loans in the national currency, the decrease is almost 35 percent. The volume of loans in foreign currency decreased by about 33 percent.
The majority or 62 percent of new loans granted were contracted by non-financial commercial companies.
We remind you that, in the context of the energy crisis, the National Bank of Moldova increased the base rate on February 5 by 0.9 percentage points, to the level of 6.5 percent, less than a month after its increase by 2 percentage points, which, according to experts, generates the increase in the price of loans.
