Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Kiev: Latest geopolitical developments suggest possible peace in Ukraine by the end of 2025
A fair and just peace by the end of 2025 is what most Ukrainians want after three years since their country was attacked by the Russian Federation, said the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine, Valeriu Chiveri, in the program "La 360 de grade" on Radio Moldova. The diplomat emphasized that peace negotiations cannot take place without the participation of Ukraine, which must receive security guarantees in the future. Valeriu Chiveri also spoke about the support of the Republic of Moldova for the reconstruction of Ukraine, which will ensure the transit of goods to Ukraine.

The latest geopolitical developments suggest a possible peace in Ukraine by the end of 2025, but at this point it is premature to conclude. Also, any type of peace negotiations on Ukraine must directly involve the authorities in Kiev, the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Ukraine, Valeriu Chiveri said for Radio Moldova. It is important that these discussions include security guarantees that would prevent a new military conflict, thus ensuring long-term stability, the official added.
According to Chiveri, the Ukrainian population is feeling increasingly tired due to the heavy loss of human lives and resources. The same is being reported in the Russian Federation, which is exhausting its economic and military resources. At first glance, it seems that all parties want a peace agreement, said the ambassador.
"One thing is very clear: the principle of "about Ukraine only with the participation of Ukraine" is a logical one, promoted both at the level of the Ukrainian leadership and in Ukrainian society in general, as well as by most international partners. We were talking about a certain fatigue, but the fatigue comes not only from the fact that there are great losses of human lives and great destruction but also from the fact that the aggressor does not have inexhaustible capabilities. So apparently everyone wants peace. It remains to be seen in what format and what the conditions of this peace will be. For Ukraine, the support coming from international partners must be honest, and sincere, for preserving the territorial integrity of this country and independence and sovereignty, because a lost war or peace that is not fair will not bring lasting peace. It will only be a period after which this unfortunate war in Ukraine could return. We want this process to start as soon as possible, through negotiations,” said Valeriu Chiveri.
When peace is a reality in Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova, together with Romania, will become important centres for the construction of the war-affected regions. In the case of Chisinau, it would be more about logistical support and transit of goods to Ukraine because resources are limited to be able to provide substantial economic support, Valeriu Chiveri said.
*“Things are being discussed. As you well know, several international conferences have taken place. The next one will take place in Rome and will address the topic of the reconstruction of Ukraine, in which we will actively participate. We can transit the goods necessary for reconstruction, and, probably, this has already been discussed. The implementation of modest projects, such as repairing a school or a kindergarten, would constitute a symbolic element of support for Ukraine. However, in terms of large-scale aid and support, we used the same solidarity channels, this time not in for Europe but for Ukraine,” the ambassador added.
We point out that, in Ukraine, recent polls show that over 60% of citizens support peace negotiations, although many oppose territorial concessions.
