Eugen Carpov, the new director of ANRE. Parliament of the Republic of Moldova approves his appointment for a 6-year term

The Parliament of the Republic of Moldova voted to appoint Eugen Carpov as director of the Board of Directors of the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE), starting March 1, 2025, for a 6-year term. The decision comes after the expiration of the term of Veaceslav Untilă, who has held this position since 2019.

His candidacy for this position was submitted following a public competition organized by the Economy, Budget and Finance Committee, to which 14 candidates were admitted. In the interview test, Eugen Carpov obtained the highest score.

A law graduate, Carpov has been the director of ANRE since 2019, with experience in the energy field. The results of the competition are to be transmitted to the President of Parliament and the Legal, Appointments and Immunities Committee.

The Board of Directors of ANRE is made up of five directors, appointed by Parliament on a competitive basis, by the legislation in force.

Who is Eugen Carpov?

Eugen Carpov was born on April 22, 1966, in Ungheni and has extensive diplomatic and political experience. He was Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration of the Republic of Moldova between 2011 and 2014 and previously held positions of external representation, being the Ambassador of the Republic of Moldova to Poland (2002-2005) and Head of the Mission of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union (2005-2007).

In 2014, he was elected MP on the PLDM lists, but in February 2015 he left the faction and became an independent MP. In the Leancă Government, Carpov was a technocratic Deputy Prime Minister; he was not politically affiliated.

He has headed the National Energy Regulatory Agency since 2019, and according to his declaration on property, in 2023, Carpov received a monthly salary of over 108,000 lei.
