Giorgia Meloni calls for summit with U.S., Europe on Ukraine

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni announced that Italy intends to propose an urgent summit with the United States, Europe, and its allies to address the pressing challenges of today, beginning with Ukraine, Reuters reports.

"Every division in the West weakens us all and plays into the hands of those who wish to see our civilization decline," Meloni stated in a press release.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky visited Washington on Friday for his first official trip to the White House since Donald Trump took office. The talks were highly tense after Trump accused the Ukrainian leader of being ungrateful and recklessly fueling the prospect of a third world war.

The deal on Ukraine’s mineral resources fell through, and the press conference planned after their meeting was called off. Following the breakdown of talks between Trump and Zelensky, European leaders reaffirmed their solidarity with Kyiv one by one.

In his interview with Fox News, Zelensky stated that Ukraine is "ready for peace, but we need to be in a position of strength."
