A student project competition with a total budget of 2 million lei was launched

The Ministry of Education and Research has allocated two million lei for a project competition aimed at universities. Public higher education institutions, in collaboration with student self-government organizations, will have the opportunity to secure funding for projects that strengthen the student community. Proposed initiatives include the development of student spaces, experience exchanges, workshops, and mentoring programs.
A year ago, Silviu Plopa joined the student self-government team at the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova. He believes there is a need for projects that would encourage students to become more active. To understand their needs, Silviu plans to survey all students.
“After the pandemic, students have become very passive. It is now challenging to attract their attention to various events. We initiated plans to hold a scientific conference organized by students for students,” says Silviu Plopa.
Meanwhile, Oxana Manole, a representative of the student self-government at the State University of Moldova (USM), aims to create friendly spaces for young people.
“We know that not all university blocks at USM have adequate spaces for students. Some areas, due to a shortage of classrooms, have been converted into laboratories. However, there is an urgent need for students to have better places to spend their time, and we are actively planning to address this,” explains Oxana Manole.
According to government officials, these projects are expected to be implemented by the end of the year. Eligible activities include promoting the "Learn in Moldova" campaign, celebrating Europe Day, and combating bullying and harassment.
"We believe it's essential for young people to engage in the decision-making process, learn democratic skills, and develop their ability to self-organize and communicate with universities, schools, and ultimately with the ministry. Having active and engaged young people is crucial," says the Minister of Education, Dan Perciun.
The projects will be selected through a competitive process. USM, UTM, the Academy of Economic Studies of Moldova (ASEM), Ion Creangă Pedagogical University, and Alecu Russo University in Bălți will each have access to a total funding of up to 350,000 lei. The University of Comrat can receive a maximum budget of 150,000 lei, while projects submitted by the University of Cahul can receive up to 100,000 lei. The deadline for submitting project proposals is March 28th.
