Messages from the leadership of the Republic of Moldova on International Women's Day: "When women thrive, the society becomes stronger"

On International Women's Day, Maia Sandu, the President of the Republic of Moldova, and Prime Minister Dorin Recean expressed their appreciation for women in the country and around the world. They highlighted the essential role that women play in the progress of society.

“Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the courage, determination, and strength of women in the Republic of Moldova and around the world. Every day, women in Moldova demonstrate their ability to succeed in various fields such as education, health, business, science, politics, and sports. They nurture future generations, develop communities, and serve as inspiring role models through all their endeavours. When women thrive, society as a whole becomes stronger,” wrote President Maia Sandu on her Facebook page.

Prime Minister Dorin Recean sent a message of encouragement to all women in the country, emphasizing their essential role in national progress.

“Throughout Moldova, I have met many women who are capable and successful, even when the journey is difficult and filled with obstacles. Women do not need anyone's permission to pursue their dreams and become who they want to be. Let's work together to create a society where all girls and women believe in their strength, feel safe, and have equal opportunities for education, careers, and personal development. I congratulate you on the occasion of International Women's Day. I encourage you to take action and realize your potential in any field you choose. When women succeed, Moldova succeeds!” wrote Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

International Women's Day, also known as Women's Day, is celebrated annually on March 8. This day honours the social, political, and economic achievements of women while also highlighting the discrimination and violence that persist in many parts of the world. It was officially recognized in 1977 through a resolution by the United Nations General Assembly.

This year's International Women's Day is themed "For All Women and Girls: Rights, Equality, Empowerment." This theme emphasizes the need for action to achieve equal rights, power, and opportunities for everyone, envisioning a feminist future where no one is left behind. A key aspect of this vision is the empowerment of the next generation—particularly young people, especially young women and adolescent girls—as essential catalysts for lasting change.
