Moldova's youth art: Tradition meets innovation

Works that reflect the current zeitgeist, exploring the interplay between tradition and innovation as seen by young artists, are featured at the contemporary art exhibition-competition "We, the Creative Youth."

Organized by the Union of Plastic Artists at the "Constantin Brâncuși" Gallery, with support from the Ministry of Culture, the event highlights the creative spirit and perspectives of Moldova's young artists.

Ecaterina Dînga, a young teacher from Telenești, came with her two children to the exhibition where she had several tapestry works displayed.

"I named it 'The Taste of Summer' because it's so vibrant, and the fruits in my tapestry evoke the flavors of home and the essence of summer," said Ecaterina Dînga, an exhibitor.

The authors of the 146 works are young talents whose creations were appreciated by a competent jury.

"The exhibition showcases diverse styles, perspectives, and current trends. Some artists lean towards avant-garde and experimental approaches, while others embrace traditional techniques," said jury president Dmitri Șibaev.

"We're living in a time of overwhelming change. However, we believe art plays a crucial role, and the artists' visions and expressive language in response to contemporary life are vital to us," said Florina Breazu, president of the Union of Plastic Artists.

The first prize was awarded to Laurențiu Curbet, a student at the Center of Excellence in Constructions in the capital, for his composition "In the Silence of the Monastery."

"I find myself in this work because I am closely tied to faith. This figure represents a person dear to me," stated Laurențiu Curbet.

Pavel Obreja's wooden and metal piece, "Sliding on the Vault of the World," received the Andrei Sârbu Grand Prize.

"This piece symbolizes human thought. If the figure were contained within the circle, it would represent limited, conventional thinking. By venturing outside that boundary, one embraces the unconventional and opens oneself to success," explained Pavel Obreja, recipient of the Andrei Sârbu Grand Prize.

The 24th edition of the "We, the Creative Youth" exhibition can be seen at the "Constantin Brâncuși" Gallery until the end of March.
