Dumitru Alaiba resigns as Moldova’s Minister of Economic Development
The government and the opposition reacted to Dumitru Alaiba's resignation from the position of Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, announced on March 13.

While the Government and Parliament expressed gratitude for his work, the parliamentary opposition criticized his tenure at the ministry.
"Dumitru Alaiba, together with his team at the ministry, succeeded in creating a more business-friendly environment, simplifying the interaction between citizens and the state, and laying the foundations for a more competitive economy," wrote the Prime Minister on social media.
During the Government meeting, Prime Minister Dorin Recean suggested that former Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, Dumitru Alaiba, could return to the government team after a short break: "Dumitru is taking a two-week break and will be back with us." His statement was later clarified by the Government's spokesperson, Daniel Vodă, who explained that it was "a cordial joke," implying that Dumitru Alaiba is a "valuable member of the government team."
The government will find a "new role" for Alaiba, said the Speaker of Parliament, Igor Grosu, who is also the leader of PAS.
While Grosu and Recean thanked the former minister for his work and praised Alaiba's contribution to "maintaining the economic stability" of the Republic of Moldova, the parliamentary opposition criticized the minister's term.
BCS Deputy Petru Burduja told Teleradio-Moldova that Alaiba's resignation does not absolve him of responsibility and that the opposition is still expecting him in Parliament: "It would be good if he came to defend what he managed over the past three years and to present his position."
Dumitru Alaiba announced his resignation from the position of Minister of Economic Development and Digitalization, stating that it is time for the "next step." His announcement came shortly after the Bloc of Communists and Socialists (BCS) filed, on February 27, a motion of no-confidence against the Ministry of Economic Development and Digitalization's activity.
The opposition criticized the policies promoted by Alaiba, accusing him of "failure to develop, implement, and monitor economic policies, mismanagement, and the lack of concrete measures to address the economic challenges of the Republic of Moldova."
