President of the EP AFET Commission: The Republic of Moldova faces threats, blackmail and challenges

The Republic of Moldova is facing, like other countries in the Eastern Partnership, blackmail, threats, challenges and everything is in an attempt to destabilize the country, said Thursday, during a seminar organized by the European Parliament (EP), the president of the Business Commission foreign affairs (AFET) of the European Parliament (EP), David McAllister, reports Agerpres.

"I took note with great concern of President Maia Sandu's statement that there was an attempt or at least a risk of a coup d'état in the country. And what does this mean? That we must continue our support for Moldova, to strengthen the country's resilience and we are in close contact with President Maia Sandu and her government", said the German MEP from the EPP group in the EP during the seminar organized on the occasion of the one year anniversary of the war in Ukraine. "It is also important to emphasize that Ukraine and Moldova have received candidate country status together and that Moldova is also under President Maia Sandu on a pro-European path," McAllister said. For his part, Vsevolod Shentsov, head of Ukraine's mission to the EU, said that Russia's plans are difficult to comment on, but that "Moscow is trying by default to complicate the situation". "The Kremlin is isolated, in a very difficult position. They are still trying to use their possibilities in Transnistria and Moldova in general. But we have to help Moldova and Ukraine, right in the middle of this war, they cooperate and help", assured the Ukrainian diplomat. We remind you that on Monday, the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, declared about Russia's plans to undermine and to destabilize the situation in the Republic of Moldova, confirming that she received from the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky information intercepted by the Ukrainian special services.
