Moldovan residents face higher water bills as ANRE raises tariffs

Residents of the capital will face higher costs for drinking water following a rate increase approved by the National Energy Regulatory Agency (ANRE) on March 18.
The price per cubic meter of drinking water has risen to 12.99 lei from 10.79 lei (from ~€0.55 to €0.60).
Sewer service fees are also increasing—residential customers will now pay 5.63 lei per cubic meter, up from 4.17 lei. However, rates for non-residential consumers remain unchanged at 10.16 lei per cubic meter.
ANRE justifies the rate hike by citing rising operational costs, particularly higher electricity prices, along with the need to maintain aging infrastructure, which currently loses about 27% of the total water supply.
The new rates will take effect once the decision is published in the Official Gazette. In the meantime, authorities urge consumers to use water responsibly to help mitigate the impact of the price increase on their monthly bills.
