Pașcani fire: Over 10 hectares burned, authorities issue warnings

Over 10 hectares of reed beds were burned in the Lunca Prutului area, in the village of Pașcani, Cahul district.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the vegetation fire started on the morning of March 17th, around 11:00 AM. Two fire crews responded to the scene.

After nearly nine hours of battling the flames, IGSU personnel managed to control and put out the fire. Fortunately, no casualties were reported.

In this context, authorities have repeatedly urged citizens not to set dry vegetation, reed beds, and household waste on fire.

It is important to note that the State Hydrometeorological Service issued a Yellow Code warning for strong winds on March 18th. From 00:00 to 15:00, north-western winds are expected to intensify, with gusts of up to 15-20 m/s.

Rescuers warn that under windy conditions and mild temperatures, fires can spread rapidly.

IGSU warns that burning vegetation is both dangerous and illegal, punishable by fines ranging from 10,000 to 15,000 lei (500-700 euro) or community service.
