Comrat: Ukrainian refugee children can study online in schools in Ukraine

Ukrainian students, who have taken refuge in our country, study in their educational institutions thanks to EDUTechLab, opened in the "Dmitri Mavrodi" Lyceum in Comrat. The center hosts 45 students from abroad, 34 of whom are from Ukraine.

Siblings Alina and Dmitri Velikov fled Odessa to Comrat in early 2023 due to the Russian bombing of the city. The two are studying online at the school in their hometown to receive their diplomas.

“*We have all the amenities. There are laptops, and the food is good. I have friends to play with, we study together. Now we are preparing for exams; we study, and everything is fine," said Dmitri Velikov, a student.

"They gave us a laptop; it is comfortable. The desks are separate and convenient; we have space for personal belongings," says student Alina Velikova.

“*I came from the city of Dnipro. I study at the Dnipro school online. This organization gave me a laptop, and provided me with food. For an 11th grader, it is very comfortable to study," says Mihail Burdin, a student.

The centre has the necessary equipment for studies. The Lyceum administration says that several extracurricular activities are organized so that Ukrainian students can more easily integrate into our society.

"Children from Ukraine living in Gagauzia have the opportunity to learn according to their curriculum and connect online to lessons in the schools they come from to receive Ukrainian graduation diplomas*”, said Maxim Bolgar, director of the “Dmitri Mavrodi” Lyceum in Comrat.

“*We organize for children the opportunity to study several subjects, such as Romanian, English, and mathematics. They also have extracurricular activities, creative masterclasses, and we also organize various festive activities," said Svetlana Panaitova, project coordinator.

The center was created by the Ministry of Education and Research with the support of UNICEF and the People in Need Organization.
