UN base in Gaza attacked: Moldova citizen among injured

A citizen of the Republic of Moldova is among those seriously injured in an armed attack on a United Nations base in Deir al-Balah, in the Gaza Strip, on March 19.

According to a UN statement, the attack—attributed to an Israeli tank—killed a UN staff member from Bulgaria and seriously injured six other colleagues from France, Moldova, North Macedonia, Palestine, and the United Kingdom.

The location of the UN base was known to the parties involved in the conflict, according to the Organization. UN Secretary-General António Guterres condemned the attack in the strongest terms and called for a thorough, impartial, and independent investigation. He reminded all parties involved in the conflict that, under international law, they are obligated to respect the inviolability of UN premises.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Moldova has announced that it will provide further details on the case.
