NATO provides non-lethal assistance to the Republic of Moldova. Mircea Geoană: It is a response to Chisinau's request

The assistance decided for the Republic of Moldova at the meeting of foreign ministers of the NATO member countries is a response to the use by the Russian Federation of the arsenal of instruments in the sphere of hybrid warfare. The assistance is non-lethal and is offered at Chisinau's request, the deputy general secretary of the North Atlantic Treaty Alliance, Mircea Geoană, told TV8.

"It is an arsenal that Russia does not hesitate to use against the Republic of Moldova. The best answer is internal solidarity, because it is needed. It is, after all, your country. Everyone has an interest, regardless of political preference, that these difficult times are crossed in the best conditions. The faster Ukraine moves to victory in this Russia-instigated war, the sooner peace will come. Peace means, directly or indirectly, on the Republic of Moldova, and on us as Europeans, things will be simpler", stated Geoană. Mircea Geoană said that the assistance offered to the Republic of Moldova is non-lethal and that each NATO member state can also provide military aid. The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, declared on Monday about Russia's intentions to destabilize the political situation in the Republic of Moldova, emphasizing the existence of a Russian plan with the involvement of military-trained diversionists. "Russia's plan is not a new one, attempts to destabilize the situation and undermine the state also existed last fall, but they did not achieve their goal due to the prompt intervention of our security and public order institutions. In autumn, the focus was on the energy crisis, which was supposed to cause discontent", said Maia Sandu. Meeting in Brussels, foreign ministers of NATO member states pledged to help Ukraine by providing weapons, military training, contributing to the NATO Assistance Package, which provides Ukraine with food, fuel, medical equipment and counter-drones. The ministers also agreed to step up support for other partners at risk, Bosnia and Herzogovina, Georgia and the Republic of Moldova, the NATO statement said.
