Moldovan president discussed with the OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities

During his first official visit to the country, OSCE High Commissioner on National Minorities Christophe Kamp spoke with President Maia Sandu about the Republic of Moldova's efforts to promote social cohesion, good interethnic understanding, and the preservation of minority languages and cultures within a democratic and inclusive framework.
The head of state emphasised the importance of promoting Romanian as a vital tool for integration, access to public services, and full participation in society, as well as the need to preserve minority languages like Gagauz, Ukrainian, or Bulgarian, which are becoming less and less spoken in ethnic communities.
Maia Sandu showed interest in expanding cooperation with the Office of the High Commissioner, especially in promoting multilingual education, protecting the Gagauz language—included on the UNESCO list of endangered languages—and developing international partnerships to support local cultural identities.
Also, the president stressed that the European path of the Republic of Moldova provides a solid framework for protecting the rights of all citizens, including ethnic communities, contributing to a more united, fair and resilient society.
