Dorival Junior sacked after humiliating 1-4 defeat to Argentina

Dorival Junior has been dismissed as the head coach of Brazil’s national football team.
The 62-year-old coach was relieved of his duties by the Brazilian Football Federation after overseeing 16 matches with the Seleção Canarinha.
During his tenure, Brazil won just 7 matches, drew 6, and lost 3. At last year’s Copa América, the team reached only the quarterfinals before being eliminated by Uruguay. The Auriverde Seleção showed inconsistency in the World Cup qualifiers and, in their most recent match, suffered an embarrassing 1-4 defeat to their biggest rivals, Argentina, in Buenos Aires—a result that led to Dorival Junior’s dismissal.
Brazilian media reports that Jorge Jesus, the Portuguese coach currently managing Saudi club Al-Hilal, is the frontrunner for the position. Earlier, reports suggested that the Brazilian Football Federation had considered approaching Carlo Ancelotti and Josep Guardiola.
