UK sanctions pro-Russian NGO Evrazia over Moldova referendum fraud

On Wednesday, the United Kingdom imposed sanctions on the pro-Russian NGO Evrazia, claiming it attempted to fraudulently influence the referendum on Moldova's EU accession and undermine the country's democratic processes, according to the British Foreign Office, as reported by Reuters.
The sanctions include asset freezes and travel bans for the Russia-based organization, its founder, Nelli Parutenco, and board member, Natalia Parasca.
British authorities report that the Evrazia network is controlled by oligarch Ilan Șor, currently in Russia. Șor was already sanctioned by London in 2022 for corruption, and Evrazia also faced EU sanctions in October 2024.
"When dirty money flows freely, public trust erodes, economies destabilize, and malign actors undermine the rule of law," stated British Foreign Secretary David Lammy. He emphasized that the United Kingdom will not tolerate attempts to destabilize democracies in countries it considers partners and allies.
These measures are part of a broader UK campaign against corruption, targeting other countries, including Georgia and Guatemala.
