Alexandru Sinigur, targeted in a murder case, detained again

Alexandru Sinigur, alias "Синий", initially sentenced to life imprisonment and released on parole just a few days ago, was detained again on Thursday, April 3, being targeted in a murder case. The information was confirmed for Teleradio-Moldova Company by Diana Fetco, spokesperson for the General Police Inspectorate.
Alexandru Sinigur, who was sentenced to life imprisonment 19 years ago for committing several particularly severe crimes in the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, was conditionally released on March 27. The authorities in Chisinau announced that they are investigating the circumstances surrounding his release. Prime Minister Dorin Recean stated that the investigation aims to determine whether Sinigur’s release was a result of “legislative loopholes or abuses,” and further details will be provided later.
Sinigur, also known by the alias “Синий,” was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2006 after being extradited from Russia. He faced charges including the creation and leadership of a criminal organization, banditry, hostage-taking, attempted murder, premeditated murder under aggravating circumstances, blackmail, and illegal deprivation of liberty.
In February 2024, Sinigur's original life sentence was commuted to 30 years in prison. On March 27, the Orhei Court in Rezina granted his lawyer's request for "early parole."
The National Penitentiary Administration (ANP) reported that Sinigur's release was made possible by his lawyers' claims of inhuman and degrading conditions in the Rezina Penitentiary. Based on these arguments, the court ordered his parole directly from the courtroom. The ANP has since appealed the decision to the Nord Court of Appeal.
