Moldova's unusual April snow: Yellow Code weather warning
Although it’s early April, winter still refuses to leave the Republic of Moldova.
In several towns across the country, residents woke up this morning to a true winter scene: trees and flowers blanketed in snow, hills, and roads all covered in white.
People have shared numerous photos and videos on social media of this unexpected snowfall for this time of year. Witnesses report that the snow accumulation has reached several centimeters, and in some areas, it’s still snowing.
The State Hydrometeorological Service has issued a Yellow Code warning due to sudden weather changes. Heavy precipitation is forecast across most of the country, with a significant drop in temperatures. Rain will gradually turn into sleet, and winds will come from the northwest.
Daytime temperatures are expected to range between 3 and 10 degrees Celsius, with frost of up to -3°C expected between April 7 and 9, especially at night and in the early morning. Meteorologists warn that these weather conditions could harm agricultural crops and blooming trees.
A Yellow Code warning for strong winds has been issued nationwide, and meteorologists advise the public to remain cautious. The weather is cooling down across the country: residents of Chisinau can request the resumption of heating services.

It’s worth mentioning that on April 21, 2017, a polar cold wave struck the Republic of Moldova. The heavy snowfalls disrupted traffic and damaged several power lines. In some regions, snow accumulation exceeded one meter in depth. The most significant precipitation, in the form of sleet and snow, fell in the central and southern parts of the country, with Chisinau being the hardest hit.
