Moldova farmers get modern milking machines

Over 20 farmers from the villages of Pruteni and Hiliuți in the north of the country have received modern milking machines, which will significantly simplify their work.

This was made possible thanks to a support program for small agricultural producers, financed by Switzerland and Austria and implemented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

The farmers say that this equipment means not only comfort and time saved, but also a step forward towards more competitive products.

"- How will this ease your work process? - It will make things much easier. In 20 minutes, we don't have to work with our hands; it works, and we're so happy about that. We thank those who have made this effort for us. We will work hard to improve our products further," said one farmer.

"It will ease our work and the productivity of the milk. We will do our best to take our products to the next level so that everyone can enjoy the dairy products they buy," stated another beneficiary.

"I am happy for the residents of our villages; it's a huge amount of work, and a machine like this will make their work easier."

The equipment beneficiaries were selected based on a rigorous study, according to the real needs of the communities.

"We conducted a screening across the entire territory of the Republic of Moldova, based on the region. We went to the north, center, and south. We tried to identify the villages most excluded from the community, those with the greatest needs and problems, which is why we decided to allocate this aid precisely here," reported the Deputy Representative of FAO Chișinău, Tudor Robu.

"Agriculture is a key sector in the Republic of Moldova. There is a huge need to develop and support the efforts already made in Moldova, including from the perspective of European integration. Also, due to the invasion in Ukraine, which has created a crisis, we especially need to support them," mentioned the Deputy Director of the Swiss Cooperation Office, Simone di Stefano.

The donation is part of the project "Emergency support for agricultural producers in the context of the socio-economic and energy crisis in the period 2022-2025," financed by Switzerland and Austria with $2.3 million and $1.3 million, respectively. Within this project, support was provided to approximately 17,000 farmers from 23 districts of the Republic of Moldova through the distribution of seeds, fertilizers, and animal feed.
