Ialoveni’s transformation: EU-funded projects improve city

In recent years, the city of Ialoveni has undergone a radical transformation, largely due to projects funded by the government and European Union grants.

Modernized streets, new infrastructure, and redesigned green spaces are just a few of the changes that have contributed to the city’s sustainable development and made it a more comfortable place for its residents.

"We are in a recreational area that was once a landfill. This is an example of how people can truly transform a space," said Veaceslav Cernat, Deputy Mayor of Ialoveni. This recreational area features a stage for various concerts and events, a paved walkway, a lake with landscaping, tree planting, a children's play area, a fitness zone, and modern restroom facilities.

The project to provide sanitation services for the residents of the Huțuleuca and Albeni sectors was carried out under the National “European Village” Program, offering local residents access to running water and a modern sewage system. The Burlea family from Ialoveni is among the 600 families who now have access to running water and a modern sewage system.

"We are very glad that this project has moved from promises to action, and in our case, the process was very quick," said Vlad Burlea, a resident of Ialoveni.

Another priority was improving the infrastructure for the growth and education of children, ensuring they have optimal care and learning conditions. "We benefited from new furniture—tables and chairs. Repairs were made in the daycare groups as well as in other age groups," said Carolina Nofit, the manager of Daycare Center No. 1 in Ialoveni.

"European Village Express" provided the daycare groups with exceptional, colorful furniture that meets modern sanitary and regulatory standards," said Tatiana Vrajmaș, the director of "Regina Maria" Kindergarten in Ialoveni.

To fund the three projects under the “European Village” program, approximately 10 million lei (~€500,00) were allocated from the National Fund for Regional and Local Development, with the local administration contributing more than two million lei. The city of Ialoveni has a population of more than 20,000 residents.
