First electric trolleybus factory in the Republic of Moldova could be built near Chisinau

The Republic of Moldova could soon have its first state-of-the-art electric trolleybus factory, which will be located in the commune of Trușeni, near Chișinău. The project involves an investment of about 5 million euros and would cover the entire production chain – from technological design to final assembly.

According to a press release from the Investment Agency, the factory will cover an area of 20,000 square meters and could create approximately 100 jobs. The estimated production capacity is up to 15 trolleybuses per month, intended for environmentally friendly public transport.

This initiative is very important for the local industry, after a trolleybus designed and assembled entirely in the Republic of Moldova obtained the first VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) code officially registered in the country. This step paves the way for expanding production and access to foreign markets.

The development plans include autonomous hybrid trolleybuses, which can run only on batteries and are quickly recharged from the urban power grid – an efficient solution for small towns, such as Soroca or Ungheni.

The factory in Trușeni would contribute to expanding production and strengthening Moldova's position as a regional player in green mobility. In the future, the launch of a tram production line is also being considered, which would support the transition to sustainable urban transport in Eastern Europe.
