Authorities from Chisinau react to the devastating attack in Sumy

President Maia Sandu and Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu strongly condemned the missile attack launched by the Russian army on the Ukrainian city of Sumy, which killed at least 21 people and injured 83 others. The two officials expressed solidarity with the Ukrainian people and called for the Kremlin regime to be held accountable for the crimes committed.

“Today, on Palm Sunday, when Christians gather in prayer for peace, Russia has chosen to sow death. The Ukrainian city of Sumy has been cruelly struck by a new Russian attack. Dozens of families are now mourning the loss of their loved ones. The pain of our neighbors is also our pain. Let us cherish the peace we have at home. Let us pray for those who protect it and remain united in faith, dignity and in the defense of life,” wrote President Maia Sandu.

Also, the head of state reiterated that the aggressor must be held accountable. “There is no justification for such evil.”

In turn, Parliament Speaker Igor Grosu wrote that the Russian President, Vladimir Putin, is a threat to Ukraine, the Republic of Moldova and the whole world. The Kremlin must answer for all war crimes, Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu, noted in a message of condolences addressed to the Ukrainian people.

“Today, when Christians celebrate Palm Sunday - the most important holiday that heralds Easter, the Kremlin’s “Ruskii Mir” killed 21 innocent Ukrainians who were walking on Sunday on a street in the city of Sumy. It happens in the neighboring country and such crimes take place every day, crimes in which children, parents, grandparents are killed, because they live and want to live in their country and homes,” wrote Igor Grosu.

We remind you that this morning the city of Sumy was the target of a Russian missile attack. According to the latest data presented by the Ukrainian authorities, at least 21 people died and over 80 were injured, including seven children.
